【Tribute to Sir Terence Conran, 1931 - 2020】

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sir Terence Conran, recipient of our DFA Lifetime Achievement Award 2018 and speaker at Business of Design Week 2003. A highly celebrated English designer, restauranteur, retailer and writer, Conran’s philosophy for accessible designs with clean lines and his understanding of design materials and processes have made a positive influence worldwide since the 1950s. Believing in the power of design to improve the quality of life, Sir Terence is very proud of his founding of the Design Museum in 1989 and its growing influence on design for cities, economy, culture and humankind. He has a deep sensibility to style and has well recognised the growing influence of Asia as a marketplace and sources of inspirations. He is also renowned for his stylish furniture and upmarket restaurants, The Boundary hotel in London and his famous quote, “I’m not fashionable. I believe in plain, simple, useful things.”

We mourn the loss of a formidable figure who has made lifelong contributions to the design industry and in our era. We would like to express our sincere condolences to his family, and may he rest in peace
