DFA Design for Asia Awards has toured to Shanghai. Design Dialogue (Shanghai) was held on 10 May in ICICLE Space. Nearly hundred of designers and design lovers were there to attend the design dialogue themed as “Design for a Betterment – When History meets Design”.

Duan Yanling, the Chair Person of open heart design alliance OHDA, DFA Design for Asia Awards 2017 Judge, was the moderator for the dialogue. With the presence of the past winners, Pan Yan Rong (T-Change Design Studio Design Director), Li Hao (One Take Architects Co-founder and Principal Architect) and Polly Ho (Fashion Designer) as the guest speakers.

3 winners from different design disciplines have shared their views on how the design embraces the history and traditions. Pan Yanrong’s winning project, Sixty Years of Taohuawu New Year Prints, is featuring the ancient book motif. It aims to bring the joy of reading experience to people nowadays.  For Li Hao, he has spent a month in Quizhou to learn the history. His winning design, Shelter - The Mirrored Sight, is a gift to the local in Quizhou, a space where the local can have a dialogue with the history. For Polly, her winning cheongsam, knot, is the connection with her grandma and the traditions.

What’s next? The coming Dialogue will take place in Hong Kong on 12 June. Stay tuned!
