To unveil the DFA Awards Exhibition in Bangkok, a design dialogue themed "Design for a Betterment" was held at Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC) on 15 May 2018. We are glad to have the Awards judge, Siam Attariya (Design Director of Pink Blue Black & Orange Co., Ltd) being the guest moderator and the 2017 winners including Kittiratana Pitipanich (Acting Managing Director of Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC)), Ezrena Marwan (Founder of Malaysia Design Archive) and Dennis Hoi Kwan Cheung (Founding Partner of Studio RYTE) sharing their design thinking with us.
In the dialogue, Kittiratana pointed out that there are many hidden heritages around TCDC. The repurposed building would engage the community with these heritages and regenerate the district. Ezrena shared the difficulties in digitalising the visual culture which is costly and requires high level of technical preserving skills. Dennis showcased a few works of his studio which all are created and inspired from our daily life. He also brought out that design is not just for personal goals of designers, but it should be from the people and for the people. At the end of the dialogue, all the guest speakers concluded that a quality design should enhance our living and bring betterment to the people and the society.
The next dialogue and exhibition will take place at Hayashi Department Store in Tainan on 4 June. Stay tuned!
